The Unfolding Financial Sector Crisis
It was a chilly Friday in Appleton, Wisconsin, 36 years ago in late October 1987. An astute stock market investor, retired businessman, and proud family man, V.L. (whose full name we have chosen to withhold due to privacy reasons and respect for his family) committed suicide that shocked his community. V.L. was one of the casualties of the 1987 stock market crash. He suffered catastrophic losses to his investments during the market plunge. Similar tragic cases accompanied other stock market crashes, including the 2008/2009 crisis.
